Our student council
At Dixons City Academy, our student council ensures that every student has a voice in shaping our community, in line with our values of respect, integrity, and determination. The council includes four Year 11 lead students and representatives from Years 8 to 10, with Year 7 students joining in term 2. Members are selected through nominations, applications, and interviews to ensure fair representation across the student body. Meetings take place every two weeks, alongside regular drop-ins to forms to gather feedback and share updates with students.
The student council leads on initiatives that make a real difference to our academy and the wider community. For example, the council led the introduction of reusable water bottles and the removal of single-use plastics in the academy to reduce our environmental impact. The council also leads on culture cays, which celebrate the diversity within our school, and community events such as the Christmas jumper appeal, which has delivered tonnes of food to the Bradford Central Foodbank to support families in our wider community who need it most.
Student voice also shapes recognition and learning across the academy. The council’s feedback has led to recognition assemblies that celebrate a wider range of achievements and has supported our drive to encourage reading, helping to develop reading challenges and book recommendations that inspire independent reading across the school. Through the Student Council, Dixons City Academy students know their voices are valued and see the power they have to lead positive change within their school and beyond.
