Extracurricular music
At Dixons City Academy we offer a wide range of exciting extra-curricular activities—from smaller ensembles to full-scale theatrical productions.
We recommend that students who take instrumental lessons also join the relevant ensemble for their instrument.
Joining clubs comes with many benefits, including:
- Gaining confidence
- Meeting new friends
- Improving your skills as singers and instrumentalists
- Developing teamwork and collaboration skills
- Enhancing creativity and self-expression
- Stress relief and well-being

Key Events
Throughout the year, we host a variety of events and often perform externally. Here’s what you can look forward to:
Christmas Concert
Our large-scale festive event held annually in the Lord Kalms Theatre. All clubs and ensembles work towards this concert during the first terms of the school year. It concludes with a collaborative finale featuring our choir and concert band.
Gala Concert
In years without a major production, we host the Gala Concert in the Lord Kalms Theatre. This event often features a collaborative pop hit as the finale.
School Production
The highlight of Performing Arts at DCA! These productions combine drama, music and dance to create high-quality musicals. Previous shows include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wizard of Oz, and Seussical. This year, we’re working on Little Shop of Horrors.
Drama Production
In years without a musical, the Drama Department stages a production around May. Past shows include The Shakespeare Show, Verstehen (an original DCA production), Comedy of Errors, and Macbeth.
Summer Celebration Concert
In production years, this smaller-scale concert takes place in May in the Drama Studio, giving smaller ensembles and soloists a chance to shine.
Dixons Academies Trust Collaboration Concert
Held annually at St George’s Hall in Bradford, this event brings all Dixons Academies together for a collaborative performance. Past highlights include Dixons City and Dixons Unity joining forces as one RnB group.
