Waiting list and Appeals - Year 7 intake - September 2012

General information

This year, Dixons City Academy received over 700 applications direct to the Academy by the deadline of 4pm on Wednesday 21 September 2011 for the 165 places available in September 2012.  There were a further 805 applicants who named Dixons City Academy on the common preference form.

All places were offered via the co-ordinated admission scheme, operated by the local authority, and in line with our criteria for admission (for details of these please refer to our Admissions Guidance document which can be found in the Admissions section).

Waiting lists

If you applied to/for Dixons City Academy then your details will automatically remain on the waiting list at the local authority until the end of December 2012; this is when the Common Application Process finishes.

Any places that become available between now and the end of December will be offered by the local authority to the next eligible applicant on the waiting list for that ability level.

If you wish to keep your child’s details on the waiting list after the end of December then please contact us again in January 2013 and we will transfer the details to the new list.  You will also need to contact the local authority at the same time to complete an In-Year Application form.

Should you wish to make a specific enquiry about the waiting list, please contact the Admissions Secretary.

Appeals

If you are dissatisfied with the admission decision, you have the right to make a representation to the Appeals Panel, which is independent of the Academy.

Appeals for Dixons City Academy will be heard using the grouped appeal process which means that appeals will be heard in two stages.

1st Stage

The 1st stage of the appeal is where parents/guardians who have a preference for Dixons City Academy can hear the case put forward by the Academy on why children have been refused a place.   At this meeting parents/guardians will be entitled to ask questions of the Presenting Officer from the Academy.

The 1st stage hearings will be held on 2nd May (6pm) and 4th May (2.30pm); parents/guardians need only attend on one of these dates.

2nd Stage

The 2nd stage is where parents/guardians have the opportunity to explain to the Independent Appeal Panel the reasons for wanting their child to attend Dixons City Academy.

Appeal hearings are scheduled for the following dates in May 2012:

9th,10th,14th,18th,21st,23rd,29th,30th
