DCA students excel in the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships 2022
On Wednesday March 2nd Dixons City Academy students competed in the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships.
NJIRC is a virtual competition where pupils compete on Indoor Rowing machines against over 7000 pupils across the nation, making it one of the biggest indoor rowing events in the world.
Dixons City had 10 pupils competing in different individual events depending on their age group; Year 7's rowed for 2 minutes, Year 8's for 3 minutes, Year 9's for 4 minutes, Year 10's for 5 minutes and Year 11's for 6 minutes. Each pupil tested their physical strength and endurance as rowing is a famously brutal sport involving over 80 percent of the body’s muscles. The spirit and sportsmanship that rowing requires is also highly regarded by top universities and employers like Oxford and Cambridge, the University of London, Newcastle University, Durham University and many others.
A special congratulations to Laylah Ali as the highest placed competitor from DCA, followed closely by rowing club regular Aylah Tahir.
All of the team should be congratulated for their courage and tenacity in representing our school in this national competition.
Well done to all 10 of our competative students!
