LGBTQIA+ History Month

Posted on 11.02.2021

Dear families,

One of our many strengths as a diverse community at DCA and something I am particularly proud of, is how we support and celebrate the different qualities and life choices people have.

Staff, students and families work together to ensure that everyone feels safe at our school and that we show respect to everyone both in and out of our school community. Our PRIDE values help to guide us all to be the best version of ourselves, to change our world for the better. We act with kindness to ourselves and each other. We are upstanders not bystanders, we challenge injustice, discrimination and intolerance. We stand-up for what is right, we are upstanders.

This month provides an opportunity to celebrate, support and learn more about the LGBTQIA+ community.

Below is a link to a short presentation and a student assembly that outlines:

1. Key terminology everyone should use when talking about people who belong to the LGBTQIA+ community.

2. The history of the PRIDE movement and the integral part it plays in the history of the LGBTQIA community.

3. How DCA upstanders must act to support the LGBTQIA+ community both inside and outside of school.

Thank you in advance for taking the time as a family to show your support and to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community by watching the presentation.

Kind regards

Mr. Sanderson
