Trips & Residentials
Year 8 Camp
The main residential experience that all students undertake is the visit to Ullswater Outward Bound in the Lake District. This residential has been central to the personal and social development programme of the Academy since it began.
All students in Year 8 will visit the Ullswater Outward Bound Centre for a full week staying overnight in in dormitories from Monday-Friday in January of each year. Whilst in residence, they all take part in a wide variety of outdoor and adventurous activities which will aim to embed their knowledge and experience of the PRIDE values at Dixons City Academy. These include hiking, high ropes challenges, gorge walking, rock scrambling, climbing, canoeing, team building and abseiling.
The Academy believes this vastly improves the social cohesion of the students and develops a range of skills, confidence and improves self-esteem. All students, no matter what their individual needs are catered for, and the expectation is that all students attend this experience. Feedback from the students often indicates that this is the most memorable and enjoyable experience of their school life.
